AWARD WINNING SKY TRY PROJECT UPDATE
Featherstone Rovers Foundation are delighted to be an award winning delivery partner of the Rugby League Sky Try funded Programme for the 3rd year running. Sky Try is all about helping more children enjoy Rugby League nationwide. It’s a ground breaking partnership initiative between the RFL, Sky and the Rugby League Foundations. Sky Try is the biggest ever programme of Rugby League (RL) opportunities and is helping 700,000 more children and young people have fun, get active, grow in confidence and enjoy Rugby League.

Each year the Foundation are set targets to achieve in different focus areas across Primary RL, Secondary RL, Coaches CPD continuing professional development and making Big games Bigger.
Sky Try Primary RL is delivered to Years 1-4 in Featherstone and surrounding areas over a 6 week coaching block which is free of charge for schools to access. The coaching block is delivered through Animalates which are interactive physical Literacy sessions that feature a video that has stars from the game introducing the different skills to the children accompanied by some furry mascot friends. The sessions are followed by a playing opportunity of a Sky Try Festival and signposted to local community clubs or the Junior Rovers satellite club.

Sky Try Secondary RL is delivered to Year 7’s and 8’s at the two schools in Featherstone, Featherstone Academy and St Wilfrid’s over a half term. Each Year group receives a coaching block from the Foundations experienced and qualified coaches. Teacher CPD is also delivered to the Primary and secondary schools that have taken part so they can continue the sessions after the programme is completed. Coaches CPD is also delivered at community clubs to help and guide them through their coaching at all levels, its important that all coaches keep developing their skills to help the children improve.

Finally, Big Games Bigger is delivered to help FR RLFC increase attendances at 4 identified home fixtures throughout the season.
