FOUNDATION LAUNCH NEW PROJECT

'BACK ONSIDE' PROGRAMME

FEATHERSTONE ROVERS Foundation are launching 'Back Onside', an exciting new health and wellbeing programme designed to encourage men to start enjoying exercise again.

Back Onside will be delivered at 11 clubs by current and former professional Rugby League players who will work with participants to build strength, stamina and fitness in a fun and friendly environment. Men who sign up to the National Lottery-funded Sport England initiative will be involved in 10 weekly fixtures lasting 60 to 90 minutes each, that focus on multi-sports activities, including rugby and football, as well as team-building exercises.

Amy Hardman, Head of Community Development at the Foundation, said: "We are very excited to be a part of this nationwide project to get local men back to being active, not only in a rugby league environment, but being delivered by professional Rugby League players.

"We welcome back on board Featherstone Rovers player Jack Bussey, who will be leading the delivery supported by our newly appointed Development Officer Jim Dyson.

"We would also like to thank Rugby League Cares for allowing us to be part of this innovative project."

Sport England’s research shows that a third of people in lower paid and routine jobs, are inactive, meaning they do less than 30 minutes of exercise that gets them slightly out of breath each week, and inactivity in people in lower paid, routine jobs is twice that of people on a high income in senior and managerial roles.

Sport England is a public body which invests up to £300 million National Lottery and government money each year in projects and programmes that help people get active and play sport. The health benefits of becoming active include reducing the risk of many chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, some of the most common cancers, and many mental health conditions.

The Back Onside fixtures will take place at The LD Nutrition Stadium on Wednesday evenings at 6:30-8pm and are open to men of any fitness level who want to feel fitter, happier and healthier. Back Onside is primarily aimed at men aged between 35 and 64 but fixtures are open to all ages, and are free to attend.
