HEMSWORTH SCHOOLS KEEPING ACTIVE THROUGH KEEPMOAT PARTNERSHIP

Featherstone Rovers and Keepmoat Homes have joined forces to deliver a 6-week block of Rugby League curriculum time sessions to 7 targeted primary schools in Hemsworth and surrounding areas, over 300 Children in KS1 & KS2 at each of these schools will benefit from this partnership. Sessions includes fun games and drills to promote the skills required to play Rugby.

On the final week the children would play in a Rugby League festival at the school and will be invited to a taster session at the Hemsworth Dragons club based out of Hemsworth RFU. In addition to this the children would be invited to the annual Rugby League festival held at Featherstone Rovers RLFC in July 2022 for an afternoon of Rugby League.

The Rugby Skills project will address the low numbers of young people participating in the recommended levels of physical activity in the Wakefield District. More than a quarter of 9–10-year-olds currently do less than 1 hour of physical activity every day. The project will begin the process of breaking down the perceived barriers of getting involved in sport and ensure that sport is accessible to all.

Our aim is to inspire children and young people to get involved with Rugby League through Featherstone Rovers Foundation school’s delivery and allowing all participants to attend a live Rugby League event.

Haydn from Keepmoat Homes said “Keepmoat Homes have been delighted to work in partnership with Featherstone Rovers to help deliver Rugby League sessions to the schools in Hemsworth. Going beyond our site boundary and engaging with the local community is at the heart of everything we do. We are proud to be investing into a programme that promotes health and well-being and we look to continue to support this project as we deliver our new sites across Wakefield”.
